project caster
location: rockwood, ON
When turning off the quiet dirt road onto Project Casters laneway you’ll find your self chasing a babbling brook winding through the cedar groves until the view opens up to a manicured bean field. As you proceed you will be met by what appears to be a century old retaining wall paired with large moss rocks. The limestone is weathered and tooled whispering of a different era. This wall is the wheel or “caster” of the project holding it all together. A generous grade change from rear door to driveway made this space almost unusable. A 4’ frost footing with a 6’ retaining wall made of structural concrete was clad in Rustic Rubble Buff to give the illusion of heritage while maintaining structural stability. Atop the wall sits a freeform vinyl pool with a rustic limestone waterfall. Hydrangeas and perennial salvia soften the hardscaping and entice the local fauna to take part in enjoying the space. A large second story deck is clad in Ipe’ decking paired with glass railings and a large vaulted ceiling clad in western red cedar. This space allows our clients to watch the kids frolic in the pool or drink in the views of the rolling farm land which makes up their land. We delightfully introduce project “Caster”.
